“The Viagra of Music Today” – Nicholas Kenyon
In recent years the classical music world has watched as Historically Informed Performance (HIP) has taken the world by storm. As a reaction against the ‘mainstream’ orchestral tradition, HIP has grounded musicians in the present by forging a new relationship with the past. There is an increase of period instrument ensembles, concerts and recordings born from an interest in performing works by composers such as Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, in a way that is more historically aware. The resulting sound is often refreshingly different from previous interpretations of the same music, and has opened up new avenues in sound, texture, articulation and historicity which had never before been conceived.
niwebyrth seeks to explore this new sound-world by integrating these instruments and ideals into the contemporary music scene.
